Amazon Wish List

Posted: Saturday May 27, 2017 3:41 PM

As many of you know LAWS  relies solely on donations.  We are very thankful for eveyone who helps by donation money, time or much needed items!

As we all know life can be busy, and finding the time to drive up to the shelter with your wonderful donations during our open hours can be abit tricky.

Amazon.ca has wonderful feature called a Wish List!  We set one up!  There are many day to day items listed, as well as food and toys.

When you order from Amazon, the items ship right to the shelter!  We have received a few boxes already and love the surprise!

Of course, once the box is empty, the cats and kittens LOVE the empty boxes!!!!

It is super easy to do.  Go to www.amazon.ca ,  There is a link for Wish List, select Find a Wish List, and type in "Lakefield Animal Welfare Society"!

Thank you to everyone!

Thank You Everyone!!

I wanted to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to all volunteers and staff who gave their time and energy to make this week and weekend a success. While our "Mother Mary" was getting better, everyone went out of their way to ensure that what needed to get done, got done!! From lawn care/gardening to organizing the shed; picking up cats at PETSMART Whitby and bringing them home; outfitting the BBQ with food/drink and cooking up a storm; unpacking shed; maintaining the tables at the sale; manning the cash table/selling LOTTERY tickets; ensuring all furry friends on-site and bottle babies had their needs met; completing shelter business during busy sale hours; and of course the mega-clean up/dump run/packing up. And I'm sure there are numerous other other things that I've missed and I apologize !!! Just know that your support has been amazing and we are so very grateful !! I'm proud to say I work at LAWS - An amazing community shelter, that's for sure!!!

Dental Care for cats.

Posted: Saturday April 29, 2017 2:08 PM

Consistent dental care or costly follow up? Many pet owners are completely unaware of how important their pet’s dental health is, and how expensive it can be when problems develop.

The best thing for you to do as a pet owner is to proactively manage your pet’s dental health. This includes learning how to properly brush and maintain your cats teeth. Most dental problems start out as very simple issues that can be resolved easily, but when the problems are allowed to grow, they turn into painful and expensive problems that cannot be ignored.

Once dental work for your cat has been recommended, it can be for a broad range of conditions - from moderate dental tartar and gingivitis to severe periodontal disease, and fractured/rotten teeth. While humans are able to undergo dental work without general anesthesia, pets are not, for most procedures. The main reason vets must anesthetize your pet is because, even though s/he might be the sweetest, most cooperative patient in the world, s/he will not remain motionless and hold his/her mouth open for an hour of noisy ultrasonic scaling, polishing, drilling, and splashing water.

As you probably surmised, dental procedures are not much fun for our pets. But for the vast majority of pet owners, it is the financial aspect can be a very tough pill to swallow. At LAWS, we understand this first hand, as a large number of cats that recently entered our system, have been vet assessed and are in need of dental.

At least 10 cats -some are pictured here- need treatment for conditions from multiple extractions to moderate dental scaling, gingivitis and fractured teeth. This dental is integral for our cats health, now and in the future. We want to ensure that all our furry friends that leave the shelter, have the healthiest start to their new life. If you are able to help contribute to our dental costs, please drop by the shelter, or donate via PAYPAL on our LAWS wesite.

Thank you so much for your support. We couldn't do what we do without your kindness and generosity!!!
